This guided desert tour from Tangier allows you to see the best of Morocco, but also to get closer to this incredibly diverse country and its people. From Tangier to Marrakech via Chefchaouen, Fez and the Sahara Desert with a camel ride in the dunes of Merzouga. This 8-day trip is available every day from Tangier.
1 Hour Before Flight Time
Your guide will collect you from your chosen location in Tangier and begin the drive through the Rif mountains and the town of Tetoun before arriving at the blue city of Chefchaouan. and the town of Tetoun before arriving at the blue city of Chefchaouan. After breakfast in the riad, we begin our journey to Fès. In Volubilis, we will discover the Roman ruins and learn more about this archaeological site. After the visit, we’ll head to Meknes, where we’ll stop for lunch and visit the 17th-century medina, Bab el Mansour and the sanctuary of Moulay Ismail. In the late afternoon, we’ll head to Fez, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night in a local riad.
After breakfast, a knowledgeable guide will meet you at your riad in the morning for an incredible cultural and historical tour of Fez. You’ll visit the medina (the old town) and its maze of alleyways, the Jewish quarter and the gateway to the royal palace in the morning before lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the famous tanneries and the Quaraouine Mosque – the world’s first university – before climbing to the top of the city for a magnificent panoramic view. If you wish, we can also visit the pottery cooperative. You will have free time in the evening, enjoy dinner and spend the night in the same riad.
Your guide will pick up from your hotel in Fes in the morning after breakfast and depart for the south of Morocco. You will stop in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco, to enjoy its beauty and take photos. After that you will head toward Azrou to see the playful monkeys in the cedar forest. We will continue to Midelt and stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we will cross the pass of Tizi n Tighamt to reach Errachidia while admiring the views of Ziz Gorge. We will stop for a panoramic view of Ziz valley, will pass through Erfoud (the Moroccan capital city of fossils), and then arrive in Merzouga for dinner and our stay.
In the morning, we begin our tour of the Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll visit a Berber house and listen to Gnawa music from Ghana and Sudan. We’ll visit deserted mines, Berber nomads and palm oases. For lunch, we return to Merzouga. After a moment to relax, we’ll pick up the camels who are waiting for us for an adventure in the sand dunes. It’s a 1h30 camel ride to the camp in the middle of the Sahara desert. Music and overnight at the camp.
Wake up in the morning to the gentle call of your guide to watch the sun rise over the dunes of the Sahara. We’ll return by camel from the desert to Merzouga for breakfast and showers. En route to the Todra Gorge, we’ll cross the hamada (black desert) and arrive in Rissani to visit the bustling local market before continuing on to the impressive Todra Canyons. There is the option of rock climbing (additional bookings may be required) and hiking in the canyons before returning to the hotel for dinner and overnight in the Dades Gorge.
After breakfast at the hotel, we begin our journey along the Route des Mille Kasbahs, taking in the enormous kasbahs on both sides of the road. You’ll enjoy the impressive scenery of the Valley of the Roses before reaching the Skoura palm grove. We’ll visit the Taourirt Kasbah before heading off to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for films such as The Man Who Would Be King, The Jewel of the Nile, Jesus of Nazareth, The Message, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy and Gladiator. We continue with a visit to the traditional High Atlas Berber village of Telouet and the Kasbah el Glaoui. We’ll have lunch in a local restaurant in Telouet before heading down the Tizi-n-Tichka to Marrakech. You’ll arrive in Marrakech in the evening for dinner and your stay in the riad.
The following day, you’ll enjoy a tour of Marrakech with a private guide. The first half of the tour will include the famous Palais de Bahia, a beautifully decorated palace with enchanting interior rooms and elaborate mosaic walls. We’ll then stroll through the Jewish Quarter, whose architecture differs markedly from the rest of the medina, and discover the incredible Saadian tombs. We’ll visit the Medersa Ben Youssef, a former Qur’anic school with beautiful Arabo-Andalusian architecture, and the Koutoubia Mosque, a Marrakech icon and tourist landmark. Finally, we’ll make our way to the world-famous Jemaah el Fna square, with its countless orange juice stalls, snake charmers, water vendors in traditional dress and henna-wearing women. We’ll then continue on to the incredible Majorelle Gardens, and you’ll make your own way through this oasis of calm in the middle of the bustling city. Visit the Berber Museum located in the bright blue villa and discover the history and traditions of the Berber people, as well as some of their beautiful traditional clothing. You’ll finish your tour at around 5 p.m. and we’ll take you back to your riad or to the airport.
