Two-week private guided tour around Morocco starting in Casablanca, exploring Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Chefchaouen and Fez and its old town before heading into the Sahara Desert via the Atlas Mountains for camel trekking and camping. En route to Marrakech, you’ll discover desert oases and ancient kasbahs, passing through villages in the Atlas Mountains to meet the local Berber population and learn about their way of life.
1 Hour Before Flight Time
Upon your arrival at the Casablanca airport, our local driver-guide will warmly welcome you. After a brief meet and greet, you’ll be escorted to your hotel in Rabat, approximately a 1-hour drive from the airport. Upon reaching Rabat, check-in at the hotel and enjoy some free time to rest and relax.
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before departing for Tangier. Upon arrival in Tangier, embark on a city tour, exploring key attractions such as Spartel Cape and the Hercules Caves. Capture picturesque views of the Atlantic Ocean and the renowned Strait of Gibraltar, providing perfect photo opportunities.
During the day, delve into the charm of the Old Medina of Tangier, visit the Kasbah, explore the Roman cemetery, and wander through the Grand Socco. Check into the hotel and spend the night in Tangier, embracing the unique blend of history and culture that the city offers.
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, embark on a journey to Chefchaouen. Known for its distinctive blue lime-washed houses, bustling squares, and steep alleyways, Chefchaouen is best discovered by wandering its charming streets. Your afternoon exploration includes visits to the Outa-el-Hammam square, the cobblestone medina, and the Tarik-Ben-Ziad mosque, featuring an octagonal minaret inspired by the Torre de Oro in Seville. The influence of Andalusian architecture is evident in the Kasbah and its gardens at the heart of the medina.
The remainder of the day is yours to independently explore the enchanting allure of Chefchaouen, soaking in its unique charm and atmosphere.
After a delightful breakfast in your riad, begin your journey to Fes via Ouazzan, with a fascinating stop at the Roman site of Volubilis. This well-preserved Roman Empire site dates back to 225 BC, featuring some of the most exquisite mosaics in Morocco from the 3rd century BC. Enjoy a guided tour of the site, gaining insights into the history of the Roman Empire.
Next, travel to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of Morocco. Explore the remarkable Bab Mansour gate, commissioned by Sultan My Ismail, and visit notable landmarks such as the granary and the Sahrij Souani, originally designed for irrigation and plantation. Your Meknes visit also includes the Mulay Ismail Mausoleum.
Continuing your journey via the highway, arrive in Fes for an overnight stay at the hotel, where you can unwind after a day filled with historical exploration.
Discover Morocco’s most ancient city, strolling through its winding alleys and narrow streets. Commence by exploring the entrance to the Royal Palace, the Jewish central hub, and the initial Mellah constructed in Morocco. We’ll ensure your visit encompasses all the sites of cultural and historical significance, including the renowned Al Qaraouine University – the most ancient in the region, the vibrant tanneries, and the captivating Attarine Museum. Following lunch, explore the ceramics workshop and relish a stunning panoramic vista of the entire Fès medina. In the afternoon, venture to the Ville Nouvelle for a refreshing beverage. Spend the night at the hotel/Riad.
On the sixth day of our itinerary, we’ll depart from Fes after breakfast and head towards Ifrane, a charming mountain village often likened to “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Along the way, you’ll be treated to picturesque views of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains. Our journey includes a stop at Azrou, a Berber village nestled within the renowned cedar forest, the largest in Morocco. There’s a chance to encounter Barbary apes in this unique setting. We’ll reach Midelt in the afternoon, where we’ll check into the hotel for an overnight stay.
Our journey today leads us further into the pre-Saharan region, traversing through Errachidia and Erfoud. Erfoud, renowned for its pottery and a thriving fossil industry, showcases remnants of an ancient ocean floor dating back approximately 350 million years. As we progress, the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi sand dunes of Merzouga emerge on the horizon, showcasing their vibrant hues.
Upon arrival in the village, we’ll transition to a 4×4 vehicle, embarking on an adventurous ride to reach our camp nestled in the heart of the Sahara Desert. Prepare for an immersive experience surrounded by the enchanting dunes of Merzouga as we settle into our Night Camp.
Following breakfast, soak in the breathtaking sunrise views before embarking on a Jeep journey back to Merzouga village. From there, our adventure continues as we head towards Tinjdad. Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop to engage with a local family, experiencing the traditional practices of Hinna and Th.
Our next destination is Todra Gorges, home to the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco. Enjoy lunch amidst the stunning gorge surroundings. Later, our journey takes us through the Dades Valley, where you’ll marvel at the grandeur of sand castles and the intriguing rock formations known as “monkey toes.” The day concludes with an overnight stay at our hotel in the heart of this captivating landscape.
Following breakfast at the hotel, we will enjoey on a scenic drive through the captivating Dades Valley towards Kalaa M’gouna and Marrakech. The Dades Valley route, renowned as the “way of the thousand kasbahs,” offers abundant opportunities to capture some of the most memorable photographs of your journey. Our first stop will be at Kalaa Mgouna, often referred to as “the rose city,” where you can acquire rosewater, leaving your linens with a delightful fragrance long after your trip concludes.
Continuing our expedition, we will proceed to the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. This architectural marvel was constructed by Et Hami El Glaoui, a prominent Berber chieftain from the 18th century, and now serves as the residence for numerous Glaoui individuals. Following our exploration of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, we will make our way to Ouarzazate, where our hotel awaits.
On Day 10, your journey will take you from Ouarzazate to Marrakech with a notable stop at the renowned Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Constructed by T-hami El Glaoui, one of the final Berber chieftains, in the late 19th century, this Kasbah stands as the largest in Morocco. It served as a key point during El Glaoui’s extensive trading expeditions to Timbuktu in Mali. Today, the Kasbah is home to numerous members of the Glaoui family. Following your visit to the Kasbah, you will traverse the High Atlas Mountains en route to Marrakech.
The day can be devoted to visiting Marrakech, the imperial city of the South. You’ll visit the Koutoubia mosque and admire its tower, the Majorelle Garden, a botanical garden with a variety of plants, the 16th-century Saadian tombs, all decorated with colorful mosaics, and the 19th-century Bahia Palace with its beautiful oriental architecture. Stop for lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore the fascinating souks and narrow streets around Djemâa El-Fna square. In the evening, you’ll be enchanted by snake charmers, singers, acrobats, dancers, narrators and storytellers as they pass from one group to the next, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel or Riad.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive towards the historic Portuguese city of Essaouira. Along the way, make a stop at an Argan factory to witness the fascinating process of making Argan Oil. Upon reaching Essaouira, explore the coastal port, savoring a delightful lunch featuring fresh seafood within the medina. Conclude the day by settling in for the night.
Following breakfast, continue your journey towards Casablanca, the bustling commercial capital of Morocco. Enjoy the picturesque views along the road, passing through Sa and Oualidia, where you’ll indulge in a delectable seafood lunch. Next, explore the old medina of El Jadida, founded by the Portuguese in 1513 and historically known as Mazagan. Finally, reach Casablanca, where you will spend the night, immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic city.
